Kesmy

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today is a pleasure for me to write you and to share my testimony with you.

I was born on October 16th, 1985, in a very poor village called LaGrange in Haiti. I was raised in a two room thatch hut with dirt floors. I have 11 brothers and sisters with one father and mother. I’m the sixth child of twelve. My father fished and farmed to feed us but often we went to bed hungry. We never had clean water to bathe in. We weren’t a Christian family and I was raised with voodoo which is true worshiping of the devil.

At age 11, I began having seizures. At age 12, I had a seizure and fell into a cooking fire while nobody was around. I was severely burned. My Dad went to a witch doctor to see what was wrong with me and the witch doctor gave him so many lies. Instead of becoming better I got much worse. My burns were infected and my arms were so badly burned I could feel my fingers start to rot away. My Dad had to sell his cow and pig to get me to a hospital. Three days later I had to take a five hour boat ride to receive medical help. By then the infection was so severe. The doctors were afraid to touch me. My mother stayed with me crying all the time.

Finally a doctor told her if I was to live they had to cut off both of my arms. The doctor amputated them. In Haiti you supply the food, bedding, and medicine, so it is very hard for the poor. For 6 months I just laid there without any type of therapy. Those days were the hardest days in my life. I was in so much pain. Every night for me to sleep I had to get a shot or I couldn’t go to sleep because the pain was so bad. I couldn’t even eat, not just because of the pain, but my parents didn’t have enough money for food and all of the medicine.

Then, while in the hospital, God sent some disciples to pray for me. They helped me meet Jesus. Ever since, He has been the Lord of my life. Since then He has supplied all my needs. American missionaries would bring me food and pray on me. Sometime later, Mom (Ann Hume), who had heard about me and came to see me. I couldn’t imagine that she had lots of compassion for me and how sorry she felt for me. She didn’t know what to say so she grabbed my toes and started saying “This little piggy went to the market.” I didn’t know English then but she had someone translate to me that she was going to help me and take me to the United States for therapy and better treatment. I knew my angel had arrived.

When she took me to the USA it was like being in a new world. I had never seen a toilet flush or electricity. Everything was new and strange to me. The people were so nice. Ann taught me how to write with my mouth and helped me so much. My Mom (Ann) returned me to Haiti in the year 2000 and put me in an American School.

God has blessed me a lot and helped me learn to be more independent. God never lies, He does what He says He will do. One of my favorite Bible verses is: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11. I believe God calls me for a great purpose and He will let this happen. I believe He will use me just like He used Paul. I just fell in love with His words and my love for His word is unlimited. My goal in life is to become a pastor and tell His word to anybody who is in need of it.

I am preparing for Moody Bible Institute, knowing God will supply the funding to make this possible. D.L. Moody has been my favorite preacher and his testimony is a lot like mine. He has been an inspiration to me. One of Moody’s words is when he said I want the world to see what God can do with a man who has committed His life to Him. I have committed my life to Jesus. I am here on an educational visa going to a community college with my American Mom and Dad. They are helping me learn to live independently and preparing me for Moody. They work very hard to take care of me and my expenses.

I am writing my testimony to share with people who want to know what God can do with ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

Thank you, all glory be to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
